Gameday #11 Recap: v. Washington CapitalsPosted: 08/02/2013
The Pens are cruising. Three for four on the power play yesterday, secondary scoring everywhere you look, solid 3 point nights for both Sid and Geno, speak of the scoring race:
No real recap because I didn’t see any of the game at all but you can check out the NHL’s highlight reel after the jump.
- No Letang last night. He left the morning skate early and didn’t return. Bylsma calls Letang’s injury a lower body injury. Does not look to be anything serious as none of the legitimate news sources have written anything about it.
- Dylan Reese played in Letang’s place and played 14 quality minutes. Martin and Orpik are just doing work, 28 and 23 respectively. Almost 20 for Engelland and nearly 17 for Bortz.
- Martin ran point on the power play in Letang’s absence. Honestly he looks like a natural power play quarterback, similar to how Gonch did back in the day. I fully appreciate that Letang needs to be out there for his offensive talent and recovery ability, and I fully appreciate that you can’t take the 2 best players in the world off of the power play, and I fully appreciate that you can’t take last year’s top power play scorer off the power play. And there’s no doubt that the Pens can’t take Kunitz, the only guy truly comfortable in the net-front role off the power play, but you have to find a way to get a guy like Martin, who makes smart entry passes, onto that unit.
Home-and-home against the Devils this weekend, great opportunity to get out far ahead of everyone.
